Woe Unto Us
Atheists can be fun. They can be geniuses, morons, but are, just like believers, mostly in-between those two extremes. One species of atheist appears to be those who so firmly believe that God can’t possibly exist that they become, how do we say this gently, hysterical about it. Screeming meemies about it.
One such has a blog titled Evangelical Atheist. Cute title, eh? I’m not going to repeat any of his rants here, just to note that if this site is representative of the state of atheistic thought and practice, woe unto them.

A quarter million page views in one day and this is all the backlash you’ve gotten? You must be doing something terribly wrong.
Oh, wait. Maybe you’re doing something terrifically right. Maybe you are dumbfounding Xians into healthy doses of skepticism. Maybe many of them they start to comment but then lose confidence. Praise Reality, it’s working!

Sigh. Another blog war? Raving Atheist did this and it got old really quick.

You should have quoted more of his post, it was hilarious!
“Most Christians that I know, myself included, would, when posed with such a challenge, fail to fall into the left-brain mode that atheists seem to prefer.”
According to the page he links to, that means atheists prefer “Logical”, “Rational” and “Objective” thought! What fools we are!

Uberkuh:
One day? Hell no. That’s EVER. I’m not Amazon. Thanks for the vote of confidence, though.
Mookie:
I’m not going to war with anyone. I just got a kick out of this. In fact, this is the most fun I’ve had since I won the “Scornful Skeptic” award at Razor’s Kiss. Of course, I have some catching up to do there. No God Blog has won twice, and I’m jealous.

This person obviously is unaware of the horrendous nonsense in both Oklahoma & Indiana. I have an ongoing exchange w/a gentleman in Okl. who is an atheist, & some of the items he’s mentioned make my skin crawl. Things like arresting clerks for selling penthouse, cops confiscating Blockbuster videos that aren’t ‘family friendly’, upsets about the sale of KY jelly (Brrhhh!).
At least this person cops to the right-brain thing. That’s something. Apparently s/he hasn’t been to the TRA site. Some of those people are a little farther out than I’d expected.

You know, that’s not really fair at all to you. You’re hardly hysterical, and you’ve made plenty of effort to bridge the gap between theist and atheist. Of course, you don’t really pull your punches, and anyone who criticizes religion must be off their rocker…
I actually tend to be more right-brained, most of the time, but that really doesn’t stop me from using the left. Maybe we should introduce the theists to the concept of using your whole brain.

Tanooki Joe:
Thank you. I don’t think I’m hysterical. I could readily point to half a dozen hysterical atheist bloggers, but I don’t think I qualify.

I’m Tri-dominant Upper left Upper Right, Lower Right so the “left brain” label don’t hold with me either.
Hermann Brain Dominance Profile - I was analyzed way back when so I might have changed a bit but I doubt it…

I think fervent believers would rather presume you were nuts and proceed to dissect your illness rather than take seriously what you have to say. Screw ‘em (and PLEASE keep uo the good work).
October 23rd, 2005 at at 1:29 am
From my observations, the more the believers try to label someone as a ‘nut’, the more threatened they are by them. I have found in choosing free thought books on Amazon.com, that a good indicator of the quality is the number and ferocity of the believers’ reviews. The more 1-star ratings and insults hurled at the author, the better the book. I think your site is making a difference and that is frightening to a Christian.

Nothing like free advertisment.

As with most theists, he would rather promote stereotypes of atheists instead of actually getting to know them. I was going to comment on his site, but there seems to be no point.
I should be used to it by now, but something he (and most theists) said seems odd. When speaking of faith, he can’t speak rationally. DING! A bell should go off for him. Religion doesn’t want people who are rational. They actually shun rationality by saying that you are making the mind an idol above god. So there it is, think logically and go to hell. They promote being a mindless drone. It is amazing that so many of them ignore the signs of a cult following.
Great blog - keep up the good work.

“Brain and brain! What is brain?” - Head Imorg from the Star Trek episode, “Spock’s Brain”.
It really depresses me how many times the religious “message” of (insert your religion here) distills down to, “Don’t think, don’t analize, you’ll just confuse yourself. Just accept what I’m telling you (input: START PROGAMMING) and here’s a quote from somebody else that said the same thing as “proof”.
I agree with Tanooki Joe and The 502, but I did have to take a swipe when I read his whole post (my avatar is a lion after all, and bait like that is like a toy mouse on a string). I think I’ll bash his latest quote from the Paulist Doctrine next, just for the practice.
BTW, hysterical? Not that I’ve noticed. Have you been running around with scissors lately?
October 23rd, 2005 at at 12:44 pm
breakerslion:
I have run with scissors, just for the thrill of it. I considered skydiving, but that seemed like it was going too far.

I am constantly amazed by the accusations of “hysteria” and “hatefulness” that is leveled against atheists for saying nothing even half as harmful/vitriolic than what is leveled against us weekly by preachers across the nation.
I’d challenge this guy to explain exactly HOW you’re supposedly so hysterical. Amazing he still thinks an accusation is a fact, in his writing.
October 25th, 2005 at at 12:46 pm
The correct term is “BLOGWAR”
Its one word, all caps
October 25th, 2005 at at 6:26 pm
Nod, I’m definitely engaging this guy at full volume– mostly because I don’t understand where most Christians I talk to of late are getting their seemingly-crazy ideas about history, and I hope this guy will be revealing in that regard.
Watch it on the laugh-attacks, Aaron. I believe you mis-spoke about the George Washington thing, and that makes us all look bad by proxy.
