GOD or NOT Carnival

I can finally let go of my deep-seated jealousy of Brent Rasmussen. :) The GOD or NOT carnival page is finished and accepting submissions as of about ten minutes ago. Everybody keep your fingers crossed.

I’ve set the schedule at once a month for now. If things go well, I’ll make it more frequent. The first edition will be on October 3 at LBBP’s Skeptic Rant, since the whole thing was his idea anyway. The topic will be original sin.

I could go into detail on the rules and the submission guidelines, but it’s all there in black and white (and four shades of gray). Go read through it.

I need several things right now. First, and most importantly, I need hosts. If you are interested in hosting, read the requirements and then email me. Second, I need submissions. If you have some good material on original sin, submit it. If you don’t, write some. Third, and most importantly, I need promotion. The first ten people to post about the carnival will win… well, I don’t have anything to give you, but I’ll say thanks. If you do write about it, please remember to include a trackback to this post. Also, there are badges available on the GOD or NOT site. There are two sizes to choose from, and you can either download the image or just cut and paste some code. You can preview one in the right column of this site.

If there are any Christians hanging around here still from Eternal Revolution, please spread the word throughout your community, also. All atheists = no carnival.

OK, that’s it. Go spread the good news, as it were.

    Thanks.

See, I’m a man of my word. ;)

It has come to my attention that Blogger may be munging the code for the site badges. If anyone with a Blogger site has trouble using them, please let me know.

  4. Seth Says:

    The deed has been done.

  5. Seth Says:

Hmm. I guess I shouldn’t go eat dinner while the blog is publishing. It did screw up the code, so I couldn’t use the badge. Oh well.

  6. I Am Says:

OK, I think I fixed it. I can’t say for sure, because I don’t have access to a Blogger account, but I think so. Someone let me know.

  7. Seth Says:

Okay, I got it to work, but I had to add a “>” at the end of the image URL.

I signed up for a Blogger account so I could test it out. Apparently, in Blogger, it will work just fine in the sidebar, but if you want to use it in a post, you have to paste it into the Edit HTML tab instead of the Compose tab. I’ve added this info to the instructions on the site.

    Thanks for the help, Seth.

  9. LBBP Says:

I am using Blogger and put it in my side bar early this afternoon. It did in fact work just fine there.

  10. Aaron Kinney Says:

Looks like I have to come up with an “original sin” post for the first carnival.

Are we getting a decent amount of Christian posts submitted? Are the theists promoting this thing too?

Is it listed in blogshares by the way?

  11. LBBP Says:

Nothing official has been submitted yet. But I did notice, after the topic was chosen, that Chad’s post for today is on original sin. So he is already ahead of the game.

Good point, are the theists promoting this also?

  12. Atheist Revolution Says:

New GOD or NOT Carnival Coming Soon

The Evangelical Atheist and others have developed a new carnival in the grand tradition of Carnival of the Godless…

    Aaron & LBBP:
Chad has told me he will promote it to the theists. I’m going to email a few Christian bloggers about it, also. I’ll start with a couple that have said mean things about me. :)

I can’t list it in blogshares, because it’s not a blog.

I’m not surprised that there haven’t been any submissions yet. I would expect that most of the material we get will be written specifically for the carnival due to the specificity of the topic. It will probably dribble in over the course of the month. I’ll probably write something for it at some point.

  14. Aeger Says:

Damn school, damn countless hours of homework. I’ll write something when I get the time, in a week or two.

  15. Chaplain Says:

I’m looking forward to seeing the first edition. Any response from Christians so far? Eternal Revolution seems to be down at the moment.

Also, any atheists planning to write about original sin might want to read the Catholic Encyclopedia entry on the subject, both to avoid attacking too many straw men and to see the Catholic objections to some Protestant ideas about original sin.

  16. Hannah IM Says:

I found out about this about 10 minutes ago, but I’ve already got the God or Not Banner on the top of my sidebar. It’s a great idea.

I’m from the theist side, by the way.

  17. DUB Says:

I’m adding this to my sidebar. I’m quite interested in this carnival and hope it gets off the ground.

If my ADD allows, I may someday even write for it.
