Visual Clues Contest

From time to time, as I go about my daily life or watch the news, I will come upon scenes or situations that reaffirm the nonexistence of god. These little clues will jump out at me and remind me why I’m an atheist. I imagine many of you go through the same thing, so I thought it could make for an interesting contest.

By the end of July 23 (plenty of time), sumbit pictures that you feel are clues that there’s no god. You can take them yourself, find them on the web and/or manipulate them in any way you want. They can be serious, profound or funny. Submissions must be under 300K, and can be in GIF, JPG or PNG format. If you’re using a picture found on the web, or you can host your picture on your own server, just link to it in a comment on this post. If you prefer, email your submissions to me, and I will put them up on the “Visual Clues Contest Submissions” page, which has a link on the sidebar. Winners (chosen by me) will be posted on the Contest Winners page in perpetuity. As usual, if you really like someone else’s submission, say so, and I’ll take that into account when judging. No nudity, please. This is a family show. Also, provide the source for any “borrowed” material.

Here are some pictures of very different types to get you started.

Benedict
Cardinal Ratzinger in his Youth

I’m going to get a LOT of hate mail for that one. I know it’s horrible. You don’t have to email me to tell me so. I did this with Fireworks. [source image]

Banda Aceh
Banda Aceh - Before and After the Tsunami

I found these pictures and turned them into an animated gif. I feel bad putting something so serious between these other two, but it fits the description of the contest. For a higher res version, and a number of similar images, follow the link to the source. [source images]

MJ and BS
Michael and Britney

I didn’t have to do anything to this one. It’s horrifying enough on its own. [source]

This picture is clean, but the rest of the site is VERY graphic in nature so please be forewarned. http://poetry.rotten.com/stained-glass/

Well, that doesn’t seem to have worked, so let’s abandon my quest for slightly complex HTML skills and just link to the picture and hope that does work.

  4. worldcitizen Says:

    LOL boywonder!

  5. Tanooki Joe Says:

Well, I could just send a link to a gallery of Ann Coulter pictures, but that would just be cheeky.

    Great idea, I Am.

  6. Tanooki Joe Says:

    This is also of interest:

Not much if you don’t know what it is, but that’s a crab infested with a Succulina parasitic barnacle. http://www.hku.hk/ecology/porcupine/por23/23-invertebrates.htm

Really, an animal that grows up to be a tumor? It was good, indeed.

  7. Delta Says:

Haha, nice boywonder. If I get some time over the next week I’d like to make an entry or so in this!

  8. Pixelation Says:

*sigh* I strongly suspect that these picture jokes would be funnier if I were on a faster connection. As it is, I feel like someone just took ten minutes to tell me a knock, knock joke.

Pity the dial-up denizens… we need it.

And for that very reason, I strongly suspect I’ll not be able to enter this contest.. :(

  9. I Am Says:

What is this “dial-up” of which you speak? I think I heard my grandmother talk about that once.

Actually, I should know better than to use images of that size. My 4.5Mbps connection has made me complacent. I’ve changed the images to much lighter versions. Sorry for any inconvenience to those in the internet’s third world. :)

  10. GeneralZod Says:

I think dial-up is strong evidence for the non-existence of God. I mean, how could an all-loving being allow a person to live with a slow internet connection??

  11. Aaron Kinney Says:

LOL I think I AM already posted the best three possible pics for the contest. Way to set the bar, I AM!

I do have one pic to enter right now, with possibly more to enter later.

This one is tough to look at but makes the case. It’s a picture of an Armenian child who was starved to death during the Armenian genoicide. Some things never change.

  15. Seth Says:

In an effort to keep this lighthearted, he posted this link.

  16. boywonder Says:

I’ve just wasted about two hours of my life googling for great pictures of Jesus and the dinosaurs. I’ve never actually tried looking at creationist sites and christian sites, but this stuff is rediculous. I now see why any normal christian has NO chance of finding real answers to their questions if they keep looking at sites like these. For christ’s sake, they can’t even agree on whether or not dinos are mentioned in the bible. Then right next to those sites, there’s an apologist site saying we don’t even need to worry about dinosaurs since they existed before man. What the F—?!

  17. addict_no_more Says:

I emailed my submission and I AM just wrote back to say it’s up! I figured Madonna should suffice as proof there is no god (sort of ironic, huh?)!

It’s really all about the children’s books and the sculpture for me!

  19. boywonder Says:

I liked addict_no_more’s madonna pics. What is up with her? She fell head first into that kaballah crap. Now you can buy kaballah water to heal yourself too. She started that whole trend with Hollywood and the kaballah. Should it now be referred to as Holywood?

  20. addict_no_more Says:

Speaking of “Holywood” (good one, boywonder), here are a couple more:

I AMs church-burning pic is another premium grab. I AM keeps posting hte best pics! :P

  23. Kelly Garbato Says:

Technically, not a picture, but if this doesn’t prove God’s nonexistence, I don’t know what does. The quality isn’t that great, but the idiocy still shines through: http://gorillamask.net/triumphjacko.shtml

(A courtesy warning to those on dial-up - the file’s 25 MB, so click with caution.)

Alternately, The Santa Barbara News-Press has some great stills in their “Court of Public Opinion” section at http://www.newspress.com/mjacksonupdate/publicopinion/publicopinion.htm.

    Scary.

  24. addict_no_more Says:

Uberkuh, ya stole my idea ;) - I was going to go for the cancer cell last night and forgot.

These are heavy pics… but I can’t think of better proof as a NYer. A benevolent, loving god doesn’t do shit like this. :( Unless he’s a dick, I suppose.

  25. addict_no_more Says:

I actually saw one of these “pro-life truth trucks” driving around Times Square… so hung up on their agenda they can’t imagine what they’re doing to the children who are forced to see these images!

  26. I Am Says:

This is going better than I’d hoped. Nice choices, everyone. I was tempted to make a 7/8 post, but I don’t want to draw attention away from this yet. I’ll put something up 7/9.

  33. addict_no_more Says:

I agree with the siamese twins… that was a sad story. No benevolent, loving god would allow for that to happen. Only a god who was, well… a dick.

    :P

I am resubmitting this because the old url I used isn’t working anymore, and I want it to be considered for the contest still. This is the abortion truck, and I forewarn that the images are graphic.
