Atheism Online & New Gift Shop

Last week, vjack at Atheist Revolution had an idea. He envisioned a site that would be a central location for links to atheist blogs, helping people keep up with new additions and discover interesting sites. Delta and I thought that was a great concept, and the three of us brainstormed. The result is Atheism Online.

The site currently has three features. The directory allows visitors to add links to their sites or other appropriate sites. It keeps sites BY atheists, sites FOR atheists and sites ABOUT atheism in separate categories, so it’s easy to find exactly what you’re looking for. All sites are validated by one of the editors before appearing on the site, so links are guaranteed to be what you expect them to be. I strongly urge all of you with blogs, or with blogs you like, to go there and add them. The more sites we have in the directory, the more valuable it becomes. I would also ask each of you to add a link to the site on your blog.

For registered users, there is also a forum and a chat room. The forum is totally empty at the moment, so I would really appreciate if some of my readers could register, and get things started over there. A centrally located forum like this made a lot more sense to me than adding one here, as boywonder had suggested.

We are not currently planning to add additional editors, but we probably will in the future. If that’s something you might be interested in doing, send an email to us at editors@atheismonline.com, and we’ll remember you.

In other news, I’ve opened an Evangelical Atheist Gift Shop at CafePress. A permanent link to it will live in the right column under Pages. There are a lot of products there, and more to come.

That’s it for now. Don’t forget to scroll down to my June 12 post, which hasn’t been up very long as of this posting.

If I wore thongs, I would totally buy the EA thong… my dog might look cute in that tee, too.

I’m going to be shopping soon… I’ve been wanting a messenger bag. :)

Great idea! What a fantastic way to get the “word” out!

  3. Delta Says:

Yep, hopefully we can develop Atheism Online to be a great tool for atheists who are searching for information online.

And I love the gift shop EA. Very very nice!

  4. Aaron Kinney Says:

I just added a few sites to atheism online. I will spread the word. I love evangelizing atheism!

  5. Slinky Says:

I’m on my 4th try to register. Why make it so difficult with password rules?

    Slinky:
You’re right. I eliminated the requirement to use numbers. The only other requirement is at least 5 characters. Anything shorter than that is just too easy to crack.

  7. Slinky Says:

Thanks. I’ll go back and change it to my “real” pw.

  8. Slinky Says:

Aaron: atheists don’t evangelize. That’s what religious wingnuts do. Debate, argue, be a free thinker, but realize you can’t talk a fundie out of believing anymore than they can’t talk you into believing.

  9. Aaron Kinney Says:

    Slinky,

What is your definition of the word “evangelize”?

To me, evangelizing is merely spreading the good news of perceived truths. To me, “evangelizing” isnt a word thats owned by any sect. Note that this website is called “The Evangelical Atheist”.

But maybe you are using a different definition than I am?

  10. Slinky Says:

Sorry Aaron, I get creeped out by that word. I considered the name of this site to be a kind of play on words or a snark. So, I apologize for misreading your post.

  11. Slinky Says:

I AM, I cant get into the forum anymore. I changed my pw yesterday, now it doesn’t work. I tried the “forgot your pw” button but never got a new password emailed to me. I’ll wait patiently for some response from somehwere.

  12. I Am Says:

I mean the word exactly the way Aaron defines it. My patience with religion ran out. I “preach” the truth to theists every chance I get. There are those who say that makes me no better than the evangelical Christians. Not true. There’s one major difference. I’m right.
